Demi Lovato stopped her Brooklyn gig mid way through to celebrate her six years of sobriety, with tour mate DJ Khaled.

The singer put on a special show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, revealing that 15 March was an important day to her.

However, half way through her set, the 25-year-old’s buddy, DJ Khaled joined her on stage and delivered a heartfelt speech that brought the singer to tears.

He said: ‘What you’ve overcome through trials and tribulations, through dark clouds, you found the sunshine, and now the sun is shining on you forever.

‘I’m so, so, so, so proud of you, and honoured to know you.’

Fans started to chant the singer’s name, and after thanking her friends Kehlani and DJ Khaled, she then opened up to the crowd about her sobriety.

She said: ‘Yesterday, six years ago, I was drinking vodka out of a Sprite bottle at nine in the morning, throwing up in the car. I remember thinking, “This is no longer cute, this is no longer fun. And I’m just like my dad.”

‘So I took a look at my life, and I said, “Something has to change. Something has to change, I’ve gotta get sober” – so I did. The reason I became so open about my story, is I know that there are people here tonight that need to ask for help, and I want you to know that it’s ok.’

She added: ‘Mental health is something that we all need to talk about and we need to take the stigma away from it.’

Earlier this month Demi confessed to Billboard that she almost relapsed in 2016 and had to leave the Met Gala to attend an AA session.

She said: ‘I had a terrible experience. This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey.

‘I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.’
