Doctor Strange director and writer Scott Derrickson has been confirmed to return for the sequel, which will follow events of Avengers: Endgame.
Derrickson was critically praised for his work on the 2016 original, which saw Benedict Cumberbatch assume his role as the mystic arts master Stephen Strange opposite Benedict Wong.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Derrickson will return to direct the sequel, with search underway for a writer to pen the script.
They also claim the script will be written in 2019 with hopes of production starting in spring 2020 for a May 2021 release date.
Its perhaps unsurprising considering the first film was largely a resounding success, boasting excellent trippy visuals and superb action sequences.

Derrickson made his name directing horror flicks, including Sinister and The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.
Marvels future slate, however, is oddly unknown following Avengers: Endgame, with Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Strange 2 and Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 only confirmed to follow.
The next movie in Marvels pantheon though is Brie Larsons Captain Marvel, which will release on 8 March 2019.
Avengers: Endgame releases in cinemas on 26 April 2019.
