Dominic West reckons that a transgender person could play James Bond – and has just the woman in mind.

Amid the speculation over whether 007 could ever be played by a woman, The Affair actor admits he doesnt see it happening, but threw the name of one possible woman for the job into the ring.

After saying that he think some things are gender specific, Dominic told The Sunday Times Magazine: Maybe a transgender Bond would be cool.

Yes, theres a very cool woman whos the wife of an actor in Colette, who is a captain in the electrical engineers, the highest-ranking transgender soldier in the army. Shes done two tours of Afghanistan. Shes a beautiful blonde girl who could be Bond, yes. Thats actually a brilliant idea.

They should have a transgender Bond because there are a lot of transgender people in the army. Theyd be ideal because they can do everything. Thats a great idea! A transgender Bond.

Earlier this year, Hannah married actor Jake Graf, who plays Gaston Arman de Caillavet in Colette alongside Dominic.

While Dominic is fully behind Hannah getting the role, he reckons theres an actor who has it in the bag.

The 49-year-old admitted several years ago, he tried to place a bet on Idris Elba being the next Bond, saying: I thought, this is easy money, Idris is definitely going to get it.

I had no inside information, but I was convinced, so I thought I might as well cash in. I was going to put a lot of money on it.

However, the odds were bad, so West didnt place a bet in the end – which may come back to haunt him.

Idris is one of the hot favourites to replace Daniel Craig as 007, alongside Richard Madden and Damien Lewis.

Daniel Craig will be Bond for one more time in the as yet unnamed Bond 25, which is set to hit cinemas in 2020.
