Far be it from us to condone violence but if theres one EastEnders character who has been cruising for a bruising then it is homophobic bigot Jonno (Richard Graham) – and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is about to play the unlikely hero by punching him as he tackles his son Callum Highway (Tony Clay) over coming out as gay.

As Callum tries to get to the bottom of Bens (Max Bowden) odd behaviour which led to their date falling apart, Johnno shows up like a bad smell, ready to wind up his sons again. But a lot has happened in Callums life since then – and he finds the strength to stand up to his dad.

For so long, both Callum and Stuart (Ricky Champ) have felt the need to impress Jonno, who sees himself as an alpha male as opposed to the pondlife he actually is. No offence to any pondlife reading this.

So when Jonno publicly calls Callum out for letting Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) go, using sexist terms against her in the process, Callum stands up to him over who he is and this winds Jonno up.

As he makes his disgust with Callum clear, he lashes out and goes for him – but Phil steps between them and thumps Jonno, sending him crashing to the ground. As Phil steps up for the man who loves his son, the cards are on the table for Jonno – he and his hatred are now welcome on the Square.
