Emmerdale could be lining up another miserable time for Debbie Dingle as she is facing spending Christmas behind bars – just as her recovering daughter Sarah Sugden returns home from hospital. As hopes start to fade that the court will see Debbies side, will she be hit with a cruel twist that will tear her apart from her kids just days after they reunite?
When Sarah was told that she would be home in time for Christmas as she is recovering well, Debbie privately feared that the joy this brought to her daughter would soon be destroyed as her trial is set for mid December.
Having been implicated in the acid attack on Ross Barton by Simon, its Debbies mission to prove that she never intended for the substance to be used but will she be believed? She potentially faces several years in prison and if her case goes against her, this would likely see her locked up just in time for the inmates serving of Christmas sprouts.
Things are already tense for Debbie as she remains determined to get answers on where Joe Tate is, completely unaware that he is dead and her own dad Cain knows. With her fears around leaving her kids and her emotions over Joe at an all time high, everything rests on the trial.

Fans will be hoping that she will be offered some sort of reprieve – especially for the sake of long suffering Sarah and jack – but whether the writers have another outcome in store remains to be seen.
Whatever happens, though, Cain and Debbie are tipped for a tumultuous time when the truth about Joes death is finally exposed. Show producer Jane Hudson recently teased that two Dingles could be irrevocably torn apart.
So whether in jail or not, Christmas doesnt really bode well for Debbie or her family…
