Emmerdale fans have been left in shock tonight as a terrible and harrowing crash has left two characters dead. Lachlan White grabbed the wheel of the car, sending the Whites into the path of an oncoming lorry and a sickening smash led to instant death for Lawrence as well as plunging Rebecca into a coma.
Chrissie came round briefly but Louise Marwood’s divisive character was soon no more as she passed away after learning from Lachlan that Lawrence was dead. With two of his family dead and one on the brink, Lachlan’s massacre will have far reaching effects in the village – not least of all for Robert Sugden who fears his son Seb losing his mother.
But away from the tragedy and the heartbreak, Louise admits that she had a blast filming her final scenes. She enthused: ‘It was amazing actually. It’s probably the most fun I’ve had since I’ve been here because I have never done anything like this before. The amount of work that goes into making this stuff look real is unbelievable.
‘We watched the crash happen and of course, we were involved in many situations manipulated to make it look like it was happening to us. My stunt woman was amazing – the job that they do is amazing. We had a woman whose job was to just come in and crash a lorry! And she just did it!’
‘It was really fun, dying – which is a weird thing to say! It was written really well and there was a lot of care taken to end the relationship between Chrissie and Lachlan without being too sentimental. It was done in a really lovely way.’
The big twist brings an end to the actress’ time on the show – a tenure that has seen her react with devastation to her marriage breakdown, bring down a helicopter, frame Andy Sugden and deliver more devilish one-liners than you can shake a stick at.
So naturally, her exit is tinged with sadness for the star, who continued: ‘I am very sad actually because we have become really close. Myself, Ryan (Hawley, Robert), Tom (Atkinson, Lachlan) and John (Bowe, Lawrence) all came in at the same time. And it feels like Emily (Head, Rebecca) has been here all the time too, we’ve become so close. Obviously we’ll stay friends forever but I’m not going to see them everyday so that will take a while to sink in – and everybody in the building too like the crew. It’s an amazing team of people – I have never met a team like it in my life and I may never again so that’s incredibly sad.’
Reflecting on her favourite Chrissie moments, Louise smiled: ‘I loved being a bitch – that was really fun. I got to say some awful things to people – it was such a release to be able to say things that you would never say in real life. And they really enjoyed writing that for Chrissie, you could tell when the writers are really into the character. The crash is possibly the most fun I’ve had in terms of stunts.
‘In terms of relationships, Kelvin (Fletcher, Andy) was great and he had been here since he was very young so he was inspiring to work with. Ryan is like a brother I never asked for but I love more than life itself and the same with Emily who is like a sister. I’m very lucky.’

So what’s next for Louise? The much loved actress is just going to take things as they come as she returns to the capital where her heart is. She explained: ‘I am going back to London and who knows? It’s that thing of going to auditions. It was the right time to leave as three years is a good stint to do – it’s very tempting to stay but my life is in London so it was time to go! It’s a hell of a gamble to take as you never know what is around the corner but that quite excites me!’
We reckon that it won’t be long before we see Louise back on our screens or treading the boards. She’ll certainly be a huge miss in Emmerdale but what a three years it was!
