Maya Stepney is to exit Emmerdale at the end of the sex abuse storyline in coming weeks, with actress Louisa Clein reportedly having already filmed her final scenes for the soap. It was always inevitable that a character like Maya would have a shelf life and it looks like Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) may finally get justice for what has happened to him.
But whether or not he will come to see that what Maya did to him was abuse is another matter as he remains under her spell and refuses to speak out against her following her recent arrest. Maya will remain on screen as the story continues to its conclusion but the ramifications will likely be felt for Jacob and his dad David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) beyond that.
Fans have been calling for Maya to pay for her crimes but through Louisas chillingly nuanced performances, she has played the master manipulator from start to finish, with Maya effectively grooming Jacob and now twisting things to make it seem like David exes bear a grudge with her.
But it looks like it will all finally collapse around her – as show boss Kate Brooks confirmed that the outcome would be the right one for the audience considering the gravity of the storyline.
