SAN FRANCISCO — Two sisters from Oklahoma who were allegedly part of a chilling plot to set up, ambush and murder a couple over a child custody dispute are due in court in the Bay Area, after a multi-day manhunt ended with their arrest in a Northern California campsite.
Tierzah Mapson, 27, and her sister Elise Anne Mapson, 28, were arrested last week at a campground in Fortuna, a small town in Humboldt County, after federal and state authorities determined the two were hiding out there. A third sister and alleged co-conspirator, Charis Mapson, also was arrested last week, in Oklahoma, according to court records.
The three will now be extradited to Alabama, where they face federal charges that allege the three worked together to lure the father of Tierzahs child, and his new romantic partner, to a remote part of Alabama where at least one of the sisters opened fire on them with a rifle, hitting but not killing the childs father. The motive, according to police, was an ongoing custody dispute.
Court records allege that the three plotted the murders with great detail, packing ladders, disguises, altering a truck that was to be used in the murders and even bringing along “good luck beads” and a necklace that they hoped would bring them blessings along the way. They allegedly exchanged text messages reminding each other to avoid Alabama after the shooting was carried out.
Prosecutors have not revealed who they believe to be the shooter, but noted in charging records that Charis is a former U.S. Marine marksman, and that shortly before the shooting, Elise allegedly texted Charis these words of encouragement: “Its just Halo,” a reference to a popular first-person shooter video game.
