Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn spoke out about her three-year-old son being rushed to hospital, describing it as the most emotionally draining and stressful week of her life.

The Mandy Richardson actress revealed she took some time off the soap to care for her little one, Stanley, after he fell ill.

Ive had the most emotionally draining & stressful week of my life, she said on Instagram, sharing a snap of herself and co-star Stephanie Waring (Cindy Cunningham). I cant wait for my little man to be back to full health first & foremost.

She went on to say: Then I cant wait to be back on set doing a job that I love & working with people that make me smile.

She went on to tag Royal Bolton Hospital in the photo.

Fans and co-stars were quick to send the 38-year-old supportive messages, with Stephanie telling her: Feel like Ive lost an arm .. missing you lots ❤ xxxx.

Sending you so much love [heart emojis], Harvey Virdi (Misbah Maalik) added.

Sarah Jayne is one of the soaps long-time cast members, first joining the show way back in 1996.

The star welcomed Stanley in 2016 with fellow actor Jonathan Smith. Writing on social media at the time, she confessed she was in love with the adorable little one.

A few weeks ago, she shared some sweet snaps from Alton Towers with Stanley and Jonathan, as they celebrated his third birthday.

Sarah Jaynes small break from the show comes after her character was at the centre of an important disability awareness storyline.

The show highlighted disability awareness after Mandy and Darren Osborne learned that their child has spina bifida.

Speaking about one particular episode, Sarah Jayne told Metro.co.uk back in December: So basically, this episode almost follows Mandy around the village, and she has lots of interactions with people with disabilities.

And I think for her, it cements that actually its not a thing – you can have a normal life.
