Fans hoping to watch the much-talked about fifth Indiana Jones adventure on 10 July 2020 will be disappointed to learn that the films release date has been pushed back one again.

According to Variety, production has been halted on the action adventure because of script issues.

Filming had been due to start in April 2019 but may now may be rescheduled by months, if not a year, since key members of the creative team have yet to sign off on a finished script.

Although Disney hasnt officially pulled the movie from its July 2020 calender, insiders say its now unlikely that it will meet the deadline.

Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we cant wait to bring him back to the screen, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said at the time.

Its rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldnt be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.

However, it has been an uphill struggle ever since. Originally expected to hit cinemas on 19 July 2019, the film was delayed by a year after Jon Favreaus remake of The Lion King took its place on Disneys slate.

Indiana Jones 5 is the follow up to 2008s poorly-received Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was released 19 years after the original trilogy concluded.

The original Indiana Jones film – Raiders Of The Lost Ark – was released in 1981, and was followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989.

George Lucas, who created the character and aided in the creation of Kingdom Skulls story, will serve as executive producer on the as-of-yet untitled project.
