This post contains spoilers for the Walking Dead TV series and comics.[hhmc]
Could Rick, Maggie, and the gang be prepping for a journey into the future? It seems that way. Fresh off the forward leap that freshened upFear the Walking Dead, it appears the franchises flagship series is contemplating a little time jump of its own. According to the Newnan Times-Herald,The Walking Deads location manager has requested permission from the Senoia City Council to build a 55-foot-tall windmill on the shows “Alexandria” site. As readers of the Walking Dead comics know, that windmill comes straight from the shows source material.
As CinemaBlend notes, it would be hard to imagine Rick and company renovating the burned-down Alexandria settlement and building a windmill in a speedy manner—especially after the brutal war they just endured. The windmill is a staple of Alexandrias thriving post-war years in the comics, indicating that perhaps the TV series plans to skip the earlier parts of the reconstruction phase. And thats probably just as well. No one really needs to see all the sweeping and the blueprint drawing and the bricklaying, right?
The Walking Dead might be wise to look at possible changes to its usual formula. The Season 8 closer netted the lowest finale viewership since Season 2s final episode. Scott Gimple has teased that in the season to come, the allied groups will “tackle very, very different issues, problems, and conflicts than weve seen in the last eight years. It is just going to be a very, very different show.” But fans have heard that story before from the shows cast and crew, so it would be hard to blame any of them for being skeptical—even if the series does have new show-runner Angela Kang pulling the strings.
The windmill might signal an intended time change for the new season, but its not a done deal yet. Due to its height, the structure will require a variance from the city—a request that necessitates a public hearing. In the meantime, the Newman Times-Herald reports that the city council has already approved the construction of the windmills base. So it looks like Alexandria will get its windmill one way or another—the question is simply whether the structure will be normal-height or fun-size.

Daryl Dixon
This photo has a lot of layers—both literal and figurative. Clearly, the hat is a nod to the blistering sun—which, ostensibly, is also responsible for the impressive amount of sweat soaking through Daryls shirt. Then again, if its so hot, why on earth is Daryl—the king of bare biceps—wearing this loud button-down shirt? For the love of God, if were going to give him an unnecessary layer, make it a poncho.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
King Ezekiel
King Ezekiel looks like hes ready for a snowy hiking trip with Bane in that long, fur-lined leather jacket. Somehow, he barely seems to be breaking a sweat—not that you'd see it through that coat.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
Rick Grimes
Its been many a moon since weve seen Rick with dry hair. His perpetually sweat-soaked button-downs and water-logged locks are worthy of the desert—or Disney World in the summer. Yet, there he is, talking to be-leathered, unbothered King Ezekiel. If the rule of good leadership is “never let 'em see you sweat,” Rick should be fired immediately.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
Carol Peletier
Carol has taken to wearing a heavy-looking, camel-colored coat. And apparently its so cold in this scene that even the zombie had to put on her cardigan before stalking her prey.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
Sasha Williams
I guess its warm? I mean, everyone is definitely less layered than they were during the season premiere, as they all sat in a semi-circle shaking with fear in their jackets and over-shirts and long sleeves. Sashas even wearing short sleeves now!Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
Maggie Greene
Then again, heres Maggie, in long sleeves and an undershirt with no pit stains! Oh, to have that superpower.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.
Enid and Carl
I give up. Here are Enid and Carl on roller skates. Enjoy the midseason premiere on Sunday night. Ill be here, staring at everyones clothes and dejectedly muttering to myself.Photo: Courtesy of AMC.PreviousNext
