EXCLUSIVE: Malcolm Goodwin (CWs iZombie, American Gangster) and Cara Santana (Netflixs The Santa Clarita Diet, WGNs Salem) will topline the family driven indie Be The Light (working title), which Goodwin is directing from a script by Victor Hawks (Pass The Light). Victor Hawks and Goodwin are producing the pic for Vision Vehicle Productions along with Vanessa Goodwin and Suwanee Wilhelm. Filming is scheduled to commence this month.
The story follows Celina (Santana) who, estranged from her father for nine years, discovers that he is dying from cancer. Celina decides to go home to repair their relationship and fight for her fathers right for proper care. In the process, she reconnects with her old friend Marvin (Goodwin), a former OG who is trying to turn the page and do some good for his community. Through their connection, Celina finds that spark in herself that she had lost, and together they lift her dad and the community around them.
Carl McDowell (HBOs Baller) has also been cast as one of Marvins core friends and support in building the community.
Goodwin, who stars as Detective Clive Babineaux in the CW series iZombie, now in its fourth season, has directed three theatrically released films for Vision Vehicle Productions; A True Story, Construction, and Pass the Light.
Santana is currently working on the upcoming film Steps, which she wrote will be featured in along with Jesse Metcalfe, who is also directing.
Goodwin is repped by Paradigm and MJ Management, while Gersh, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Bloom, Hergott, Diemer, Rosenthal rep Santana.
