Clark Kent has just stepped over to the dark side, thanks to director James Gunn.

Not only has the Guardians Of The Galaxy director turned Superman into a teen-horror, but our favourite superhero is now the bad guy.

But Smallvilles alternative saviour certainly makes for a thrilling trailer.

Co-written and produced by Gunn, the chilling film stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman as Supermans parents.

Gunn has been fired as director of ???Guardians of the Galaxy 3??? because of old tweets that recently emerged where he joked about subjects like pedophilia and rape. Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn said in a statement Friday, July 20, 2018, that the tweets are indefensible, and the studio has severed ties with Gunn. However, instead of raising a bright child with extraordinary abilities used for good, this new Clark has powers to kill and he doesnt look like hes afraid to use them.

Part of a new sub-genre of films called Superhero-horror, The films synopsis reads: What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?

With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

Directed by David Yarovesky, the dark trailer starts with a precious looking kid (mini superman) asking his mother Who am I?

You are a gift his mother responds before the real horror begins.

Originally scheduled to discuss Brightburn at San Diego Comi-Con in July, Gunn was fired by Disney after a series of offensive tweets resurfaced.

The filmmakers dismissal came with a huge backlash to the franchise however, as GOTG stars ended up signing an open letter in his defense.

Actor Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in Guardians Of the Galaxy, was among the lists of film friends who spoke out on the firing, tweeting: I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met.

Hes gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. Hes made mistakes. We all have. Im NOT ok with whats happening to him.

Brightburn – which only secured its name recently – also stars actors Jackson A. Dunn as Superman, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner.

Blackburn is out on cinematic release on 24 May, 2019.
