EXCLUSIVE:Jane Fonda, Common and Gloria Allred rarely do things by half and this weekend the frequently outspoken trio will be among the speakers at the Respect Rally set to happen at the Sundance Film Festival.
All with films at the Robert Redford founded fest this year, the two Oscar winners and the relentless attorney at the heart of the Seeing Allred documentary will be joined by the likes of Daveed Diggs, Nick Offerman, Sage Trudell, Rafael Casal and Bart Powaikee, I’ve learned. The mayor of Salt Lake City Jackie Biskupski and Utah Senate candidate Jenny Wilson will also participate in the Park City event on January 20.
Organizers expect around 3,000 to 5,000 attendees on what traditionally is the busiest day at Sundance. That’s understandably down a bit from the just over 8,000 who took to the streets for the March On Main on January 21, 2017
In that vein, check out this video below looking back at last year’s snowy Park City event, which went on at the same time as Women’s Marches attracted thousands in cities and towns all over the nation the day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

With Season 4 of her Netflix series Grace & Frankie launching on Netflix on Friday, long time activist and Sundance vet Fonda will be returning to Park City for the debut of the Susan Lacey directed documentary Jane Fonda In Five Acts. The pic actually premieres just three hours after the 10 – 11:30 AM MST rally concludes on Saturday.
Also a Sundance alum, Common appears in the U.S. Dramatic Competition film The Tale this year. The Jennifer Fox helmed pic has its debut at 12:15 PM on January 20 so Common may have to rush over from the rally scheduled to take place across from the Library in Park City over to the Eccles theatre on Saturday. As well, the recently debuted Showtime series The Chi, which Common is both an executive producer of and stars in, has a presence at this year’s Sundance.
As well as the Respect Rally in Park City, gatherings and marches are planned for Los Angeles, New York and other cities on January 20.
