Josh Brolin has revealed that working on gritty projects around drug cartels can be a dangerous game.
In 2017 Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location scout for TV drama Narcos, was murdered after being kidnapped in Mexico, and now Josh, who starred in 2015 flick Sicario about an FBI agent tasked with taking down a powerful Mexican cartel leader, has revealed that a location scout for that movie was also kidnapped while at work.
The actor explained: ‘You think you’re doing something by telling a good story, and by exploiting something hopefully in a good way, to educate everybody on the subject, but at the same time it’s not worth it.’
Portal, who also worked on Sicario, was killed while working on Narcos, a television series about drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, and his relations with other drug lords who go up against the Drug Enforcement Assocation.
‘Rest in peace this guy who lost his life, based on something he thought was important – but he’s gone now,’ the actor told TMZ.
‘There’s danger of course, because you’re dealing with narcotics,’ Josh, who starred in The Goonies in the Eighties, and won critical acclaim for psycho-thriller No Country For Old Men in 2009, went on to say.

Portal had been working on location scouting for the fourth season of Narcos when he was found shot dead in central Mexico.
He was reportedly found in a car having been shot in a remote area near Hidalgo.
Netflix, who produce the hit show, said at the time: ‘We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family.’

Narcos had been filmed in Colombia until the end of season three, however, season four had been expected to transfer to Mexico to focus on the story of the Juarez cartel.
The first three seasons of Narcos are available on Netflix, and the fourth, currently filming, is expected to land later in 2018.
