R&B icon Lauryn Hill looked every inch the star when she left the Apollo Theater in New York last night.
Decked out in a patterned dress and headscarf, Hill was gifted a self-portrait from a fan as she emerged from backstage.
Famously tardy, the rapper arrived several hours late for the Citi Presents Ms. Lauryn Hill show in NYC.
But she made up for lost time by launching into a hit-packed set that included some rarely-aired songs by the Fugees. Hill was a member of the US hip-hop group before going solo in the early 1990s.
Hill recently announced a tour to mark the 20th anniversary of her classic debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It broke sales records upon its release 1998 and has become a landmark album in the hip-hop genre. But the New Jersey born artist is still to release its follow-up.
Tickets for the tour have been like gold dust, so it was no surprise when she announced a short notice date at the Apollo last night.

Its been a bumpy ride over the past few years for Hill, who served three months in prison for tax fraud in 2013. She was then forced to give a feeble excuse to fans for arriving more than two hours late to a show in 2016. She claimed her internal energy was out of alignment and had to wait for it to correct itself before taking the stage.
Last year, former Fugees bandmate Pras revealed why it has taken Hill 20 years to record a new album.
She just felt uninspired, claimed Pras.
Money isnt a driving force for her. If she had a billion dollars, if she had one dollar she wouldve done it the exact same way.
He added: This is a woman who she has to feel inspired to create, and if she doesnt feel inspired shes not going to create. Because thats what she gets her source of energy from.
