Mabel McVey is the pop star for the millennial generation.
As its not all airbrushing and flawless vocals, instead the rising star is prepared to talk about uncomfortable topics such as mental health.
Mabel has been making music since 2015 but became a chart-topper in 2017 with her top 10 hit Finders Keepers. Mabel has continued to be a mainstay in the charts, by scoring top 20 collaborations with rapper Not3s on Fine Line and My Lover (Remix).
Metro.co.uk caught up with the 22-year-old singer for an exclusive chat ahead of her performance at Voxi House.
At her recent performance at the Radio 1 Teen awards, Mabel told her younger fans to enjoy every moment- dont stress. But when asked if shes a role model, shes quick to laugh and dismiss such a label. She tells us: I think role model is a lot of pressure. I definitely want to send out a good message and be open and talk about those things (mental health). If I start talking about them, then other people will too. I dont know about role model though.

Mabel has been frank about her own struggles with mental health, and discussed her battle with anxiety.

Although Mabel might not consider herself a role model, its clear who has an impact on her. She was born into a musical family. Her mother is the iconic singer Neneh Cherry and her father is the Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey. Asked what it was like growing up as the daughter of two music legends, Mabel tells us her parents advice was just to be herself.
With her four million plus Spotify streams and MTV Brand New award win, it appears that the advice is paying off for the young starlet.
Mabel is enjoying the power of social media, which enables her to connect with and get feedback from her fans and chat to them one on one, favouring Instagram and Twitter.
Recently, Mabel released the remix of her latest single One Shot. For the remix, she teamed up with London rappers Yungen and Avelino. When asked how she decided which rappers to pick for the remix, she says: I like the things they say in their music. Im fans of them and theyre just really good artists.
So far, Mabel has released the E.P Bedroom, and the mixtape Ivy to Roses which was reissued this year. The singer remains tight-lipped about her upcoming album but promises that it will come next year for sure.
