Macaulay Culkin was the biggest child star of the 1990s, starring in classics such as Home Alone and Richie Rich.
But becoming the first child actor to be paid $1 million for a role took a whole lot of work.
Macaulay has revealed that the bees that attacked his character Thomas J in My Girl were actually real bees, because it was 1991 and apparently absolute horror was preferable to dodgy CGI.
The comedy-drama saw Culkin play the allergy-ridden Thomas J being chased by bees after kicking their hive – leading to a fatal reaction to the stings.
The actor, now 38, told Vanity Fair: When I was doing My Girl, they released a couple of hundred bees onto me, actual live bees. I knew that this was not something that every kid was doing. At the same time, it was just another day at the office.

Unsurprisingly, Macaulay says he doesnt really miss acting, saying: Im pursuing other kinds of things—Im painting and Im doing a comedy website. Im writing.
Ive been described by a good friend of mine as “a man of leisure”. Im essentially a thirtysomething retired person. For me, I feel a certain level of comfort and peace.
Culkin was speaking to the magazine as part of a feature with his siblings – all seven Culkin siblings (including Macaulays late sister Dakota) have worked in acting at some point.
He said: Were quite peerless because of our experiences. We cant really look around and find someone whos had a similar upbringing. Its added to our closeness.
Macaulay, whose brothers Rory and Kieran are still acting, began acting at the age of four, but it was his role as Kevin McCallister in 1990s Home Alone that gave him his big break.

The Christmas classic led to an equally as successful sequel Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, while My Girl and The Pagemaster added to Macaulays fame.
However, he gave up acting after 1994s Richie Rich, returning to the big screen as Michael Alig in 2003s Party Monster.
