A homeless man in his 50s was fatally struck by a train in Van Nuys on Wednesday, authorities said.
The man was declared deceased at 7:08 a.m., said Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, and his identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
He was described as a “homeless transient” with the cause of death being reported as a suicide, Winter added.
The collision was reported at 6:48 a.m. at 8002 Sepulveda Blvd., the Los Angeles Fire Department previously said.

A pedestrian — now known to be the man — was on the tracks when the train collided into them, said L.A. Police Department Officer Irma Mota on Wednesday.

There were 360 passengers on the Metrolink Ventura County line 102 who were headed to Los Angeles but none of them reported any injuries, said Metrolink spokesman Chris Gutierrez on Thursday.
The train experienced an hour and 20 minute delay and was able to head to L.A. after responding authorities released it.
“Our operation staff was on scene and working hand in hand with LAPD and the first responders,” Gutierrez said. “It helped move the situation along a little faster.”
