VAN NUYS >> A man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after earlier reports he allegedly brandished a firearm, forcing a nearby elementary school to go on lockdown, authorities said.
A radio call was received at 11:15 a.m. in the 14700 block of Erwin Street for an assault with a deadly weapon, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman.
LAPD Officer Tony Im confirmed a man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a police canine located the suspect and bit him.

The affected school was Children’s Community School, at 14702 Sylvan Street, Eisenman said.
The suspect was reported to have brandished a weapon at a person making a call, leading police to respond and set up a perimeter, Eisenman said.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said.
In an unrelated call at 10:50 a.m., near the same location, a man with a rifle was taken into custody, Eisenman added.
