Black Panther, which stars actor Chadwick Boseman as the lead character T’Challa, made headlines for its 90% African-American cast with the movie being based in Africa, Kenya.

Creed star Michael B Jordan and actress Lupita Nyong’o are also listed in the star studded cast alongside movie legends Angela Bassett, Forest Whittaker and British actor Martin Freeman.

Leading actor Chadwick Boseman previously explained to the Los Angeles Times that he thought Kendrick’s sounds and lyrics were a perfect fit for the movie.

He explained: ‘You’re talking about a world that would exist if the Egyptians were never conquered, if Sumeria was never conquered and was allowed to progress — that’s what Wakanda is’

Kendrick first came to the Boseman and director Ryan Coogler’s attention when they tried putting the star’s single DNA to a montage of extended fight scenes for the film.

‘As soon as I heard it on his album for the first time I said, ‘They should use that song,’ he added, ‘I just thought it would fit. I didn’t know if they’d do it or not, but I thought it was perfect.’

A fan of K-Dot, Boseman added: ‘The lyrics are amazing — a lot of Kendrick’s are.

‘It’s actually oddly literal for our trailer’s purposes — and I think a lot of the cultural things we’re dealing with in Wakanda are in the zeitgeist in the African American community.’
