Mary Poppins is back – and boy, have we missed her.
Disney dropped the first teaser trailer for the sequel to the 1964 film in the middle of the 2018 Oscars, which is no surprise with two former Oscar nominees in the cast.
Emily Blunt stars as the titular Mary in the new film which is set two decades after the originalk
In the teaser we see a young man chasing after a kite, the familiar kite we saw at the end of Mary Poppins, before Lin-Manuel Miranda joins him in the chase and helps him attempt to bring the kite in from the strong winds.
But of course, with the ‘winds in the east, mist coming in’, we all know ‘something is brewing and about to begin’.
And that is Mary Poppins, as she floats down with the kite in hand.
Clad in the famous nanny’s equally famous uniform of long overcoat and smart hat, Emily looks every inch the practically perfect nanny we’ve come to love and we couldn’t be more excited.
In the story, our beloved Michael and Jane are all grown up with children of their own, and after Michael suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins re-enters their lives.
She helps the children, who are played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and Joel Dawson, rediscover the joy and wonder that is missing in their lives. Blunt will be supported by Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as Michael and Jane, Meryl Streep as Poppin’s eccentric cousin Topsy, Colin Firth as banker William Weatherall Wilkins, and Julie Walters as the Banks housekeeper.
