Matthias Schoenaerts, Garrett Hedlund and Scoot McNairy are set to star in mob drama The Sound of Philadelphia from the producers of Carol.
The trio will front the tale of family, friendships and loyalties betrayed in the violent world of the Philadelphia mob, which A Bluebird in My Heart helmer Jérémie Guez is directing, based on Pete Dexters Brotherly Love.
Protagonist Pictures is launching the feature in Cannes with Endeavor Content handling North America.
The Danish Girls Schoenaerts play Peter Flood, who still is reeling from his baby sisters death and pays a high price when he seeks revenge. As he tries to distance himself from the family business, his cousin, Michael (Mudbounds Hedlund), with whom he was raised, grows ever more powerful in the criminal hierarchy. Bonded by blood, the cousins are dragged further into a chilling cycle of betrayal and retribution.
Christine Vachon (Carol) and David Hinojosa (Beatriz at Dinner) from production company Killer Films have teamed up with Cheyenne Films producers Julien Madon (Macadam Stories) and Aimée Buidine (A Bluebird in My Heart) to produce.
The film, a Belgian/French/U.S. co-production, will shoot in Philadelphia in August.
“We leapt at the chance to work with the teams at Killer Films and Cheyenne on this super-smart and stylish mob thriller,” said Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop. “Jérémie Guez is an incredible talent, and with such an amazing ensemble of actors in place, we cant wait to discuss The Sound of Philadelphia with buyers in Cannes.”
Schoenaerts is repped by CAA and UBBA. Hedlund is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and Sloane Offer. McNairy is repped by WME. Guez is repped by WME, Management 360 and UBBA.
