MoNique vs. Lee Daniels is the Hollywood feud that refuses to let up. It began way back in 2015, when MoNique claimed that Daniels, who directed her in the 2009 drama Precious, had blackballed her after her Oscar-winning turn in his film. The feud has continued simmering ever since then, with MoNique additionally claiming that Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry had blacklisted her as well. In a new interview with TMZ, Daniels responded to his onetime stars claims by saying that the comedian needed to “shut up.” Not one to leave a feud dangling, MoNique struck back once again on Monday, issuing a playful response via Instagram.
“Lee Daniels, you shut up,” she said in a video message, laughing. This feud is now one step away from the “I know you are, but what am I” stage.
The comedian began her Instagram statement with her now trademark greeting “Hey, my loves,” then addressed the wild rumor that she was purportedly being offered a $10 million Netflix deal. “Its a goddamn hoax,” she said. “That is not true, my babies.“ She capped the message by issuing her succinct response to Daniels. Concise!
The video was accompanied by the following caption: “NETFLIX DEAL. Get it straight from me. Lee Daniels behave LOVE YALL FOR REAL.”
Daniels made his remarks about MoNique on Monday, telling TMZ that he was allied with his onetime leading lady for a long time. “I fought hard for her to get that job,” he said of her role as an abusive mother in Precious. MoNique won a best-supporting-actress Oscar for her breakthrough performance.
Eventually, though, Daniels broke with MoNique: “For her to bad-mouth myself and Tyler and Oprah is disrespectful and its wrong. Shes wrong. Shes out of pocket,” he said. And while Daniels said it breaks his heart to think that MoNique believes she has been shunned by the industry, “no one blackballed her.”
“It aint even worth a conversation,” he continued. “She needs to shut up.” Now that shes responded, the ball is back in Danielss court—again!
