Naomi Osaka showed her class after a thumping win over 15-year-old American sensation Cori Gauff, inviting her tearful opponent to conduct a joint post-match interview.
While Gauff protested and said Im going to cry, Osaka – who won 6-3 6-0 in 66 minutes – told her its better than going into the shower and crying and encouraged her to address the adoring US Open crowd.
Both superstars were visibly emotional in when giving their on-court answers, drawing tears from the stands as two young superstars warmed the hearts of the traditionally feisty New York supporters.
Gauff said: She told me I did amazing and asked if I could do the on-court interview with her and I said no because Im going to cry the whole time but she encouraged me to do it.

Osaka then gave Gauff – who she knows well from training in Delray Beach – a hug before the tears began flowing down her own cheeks.
