When music fans learned that Neil Young and Bob Dylan had been announced as co-headliners of one of the nights at next years British Summer Time (BST) gig series, there was plenty of rejoicing.

However, theres just one problem – Neil Young himself wasnt ready for that big announcement to be made.

Tickets are currently on sale for the 12 July, 2019 show in Londons Hyde Park, but Young has now thrown a spanner into the works by emphatically registering his displeasure at both the timing of and the manner in which the gig was announced.

Writing on his Neil Young Archives (NYA) site on Friday (7 December), the 73-year-old Canadian musician apologised to his fans and declared: Like you, I had no idea the announcement was coming that day.

I was still finessing the art for the poster and trying to make sure that all of the details of the show were agreeable to me. Then, suddenly, someone jumped the gun.

The tickets were put on sale and the announcement was made, all without my knowledge.

We promised you that you would learn first at NYA about all of my activities and have first access to pre-sale tickets. You didnt. I was angry.

Young also slammed Barclays Bank – whose Barclaycard is the prime sponsor of the BST concert series – by branding the company a fossil fuel funding entity.

That doesnt work for me, he wrote. I believe in science. I worry about the climate crisis and am deeply concerned about its massive global ramifications and my beautiful grandchildrens future.

Theres no doubt about it, Young added. Its been a massive fuck up!

Young added that he and his team are trying to rectify the situation and promised to update fans on the status of the Hyde Park show soon – suggesting that the staging of the gig, or at least Youngs appearance at it, is in doubt.

We have been talking about requiring a different sponsor as one option, Young clarified.

We are quite confident that nothing like this will ever happen again. Were sorry for this situation – it is – and shall remain an anomaly.
