Soaps like Coronation Street are known for their stunt sequences and while actors are often enthusiastic about wanting to do their own action-y bits, they’re usually not allowed and for pesky health and safety reasons (this country!), stunt doubles are brought in.
The chances of finding a trained stunt person who is also the doppelganger of every single soap actor are fairly slim so the shows have to adopt several techniques including editing and costume to ensure that the stunt people, who are often the opposite gender, blend into the scenes.

And you’d have to be pretty sharp-eyed and handy with a pause button to have spotted a minor Corrie slip up last night when Roy Cropper was caught up in the garage being attacked by racist thugs. Unfortunately for the show, this is exactly what Twitter was invented for.
A handful of fans were amused to notice a man in Roy’s overcoat appear on screen and he most definitely wasn’t David Neilson. Did you spot him?
Still, anything that prevents any real harm coming to an icon like David is okay by us! And who isn’t up for some of the stunt doubles getting their faces out there – they have helped us enjoy some of soap’s best ever stunts after all!
Luke Britton had been the target of the attack after he had stepped in to defend Alya Nazir against the racist abuse directed towards her. Roy’s experience left him shaken and prompted Carla Connor to pledge to stick around and be there for him.
