Having survived the Jacobite risings; pirates at sea; and a heartbreaking separation, Claire and Jamie Fraser—the Outlander protagonists played by Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan—certainly deserve a new beginning. And Season 4—which debuts this November on Starz—seems to give televisions sexiest time travelers just that.
A new trailer shows Claire and Jamie vowing to put down roots in the colony of North Carolina—after shipwrecking off the coast of Georgia during last seasons finale. The couple also does its best to adjust to American life, navigating new land and cultures; checking out the River Run plantation; and receiving an ominous welcome from Jamies aunt Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy). And dont worry: as evidenced by a few seconds of a candle-lit, cabin-set love scene, Claire and Jamies libido survived the transatlantic journey!
Unfortunately for them, America has its own brewing revolution; forests full of rifle-wielding thieves; and gruesome evidence of other time travelers whose luck ran out.
“Over the last three seasons, Jamie and Claire didnt know where they are going to live,” Outlander executive producer Matthew B. Roberts has teased. “They never plant their feet. Now theyre getting to that place that they can call home. But the meaning of home is different for people. Thats what we will dig into in Season 4.”
This past May, Starz ordered two additional seasons of the bodice-ripping series, with network C.E.O. Chris Albrecht announcing, “Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries, and adventures in Seasons 5 and 6 as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World.”
