PACIFICA – A 32-year-old San Francisco man was arrested in connection with an attempted mugging and a pair of crashes in Pacifica over the weekend, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Pacifica Sharp Park Library at 104 Hilton Way about 11:45 a.m. Saturday for reports of an attempted strong-arm robbery, Pacifica police said in a news release Tuesday. Soon after, two car crashes were reported nearby.
The sequence kicked off with the suspect, later identified as Lawrence Jamison Green, demanding money from two 80-year-old women in the library parking lot, according to police. Green allegedly hit one in the head with an empty beer can when she said she did not have any.
Police said the other woman believed Green was going to take her purse and pushed him away.
Green fled on foot but he was later detained at the scene of a hit-and-run collision at Lakeside Avenue and Clarendon Road, according to police. He was also linked to a second crash at Francisco Boulevard and Brighton Road.
A woman who was riding with Green was released at the hit-and-run scene, according to police.
Green was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of attempted robbery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and public intoxication.
