Sarkar hit screens on November 6.
Sarkar, which was released on 3000 screens worldwide on November 6, is still ruling the box office down south. Continuing to grow strong on Day 5, the Vijay starrer has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark worldwide.
Despite the political backlash, Sarkars screening remains unaffected. It is successfully running in theaters all over.
The protests were over certain scenes which showed state-provided freebies being thrown in the fire. Members of the ruling party also took objection to the female villain being called “Komalavalli”. The actual name of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa was Komalavalli.

The Indian Express film critic S Subhakeerthana, in her review, said, “Sarkar belongs to Vijay, but not AR Murugadoss. Its tailor-made for Thalapathy who speaks of farmer suicides, Jallikattu, Tuticorin protests, the fishermens issue, marketing and branding and how with the support of youngsters, he can save Tamil Nadu. Watch out for the scene where he talks about tomatoes and ketchup, please.”
The ensemble cast of Sarkar is another reason which is drawing such huge crowds to the theaters. Along with Vijay, the movie also stars Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Radha Ravi and Yogi Babu among others.
