The tri-state area saw heavy rain and flash floods on Sunday as a second day of spotty rain soaked the tri-state area.

Scattered showers were expected to continue overnight Sunday, with the possibility of flash flooding, Storm Team 4's Raphael Miranda said.

The weather is expected to be humid and stick through Tuesday, with the temperature expected to be close to 90 on Wednesday.

A flash flood warning issued for Brooklyn on Sunday lasted until 3:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

More than 2.5 inches of rain, meanwhile, fell on parts of the Hamptons in central Suffolk County early Sunday, the National Weather Service said. Heavy rain was also reported in Nassau County and Queens.

Dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports.

Spotty showers are expected across the region on Sunday, according to meteorologist Raphael Miranda, although the weather isn' expected to be as severe as on Saturday.

A flood warning was issued for the Passiac River at Pine Brook affecting Essex, Morris and Passaic counties. The river was already above the flood stage of 19 feet, according to the National Weather Service. The river is expected to crest Tuesday near 20.2 feet.

It follows a day of heavy thunderstorms which caused flooding across New York City, northeastern New Jersey and southern Connecticut.

The heavy rain and flooding forced Penn Station to close its Seventh Avenue entrance, according to New Jersey Transit.

Nearly 5 inches of rain fell in Caldwell, New Jersey. Upton, on Long Island, got more than 4 inches. Central Park recorded 2.9 inches of rain.

In Caldwell, major damage was reported to the municipal building, library and community center parking deck, police said.

In Fairview, New Jersey, severe flooding displaced dozens of people, the Red Cross said.

At Route 66 Nissan, in Totowa, New Jersey, meanwhile, a bystander captured video of cars floating down a flooded path away from the dealership, crashing into one another, overturning and getting stuck in some nearby foliage.

A house was struck by lightning Sunday in Edison, New Jersey.
