Fans of the Star Trek world will be happy to note that season three of the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery will be keeping true to the original show.

Star Trek: Discovery is entering the final part of season two, and showrunners are already working on a third season.

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman attended PaleyFest at Hollywoods history Dolby Theatre, one of TVs biggest festivals, to talk about the new season and how its pushing limits.

Kurtzman is keen to remain in line with Star Trek canon, though he reveals there may be surprises on the horizon.

We will be syncing up with TOS [The Original Series], he revealed. You will be seeing many things that are entirely recognisable, and some things that are not, and that, I think, is the beautiful space were lucky enough to occupy about Trek is, “How do you meet all of the expectations and how do you defy them all at the same time?”

He kept tight-lipped about the specifics of what will be familiar and what will be new.

The second season is already aligning with the original components of the show, such as bringing in Captain Christopher Pike and adding Spock to the cast.

Speaking of the end of season two, actor Anthony Rapp, who plays Lt Commander Paul Stamets in the show, told the Wire: I think that the last few episodes will really close the circle for people. If weve done our job, what was on the page … I havent seen them yet, but what was on the page in the scripts, closes the circle; it answers the questions that are lingering and remaining for people of how we fit in.

And I believe very strongly that it will leave people satisfied. … As someone who cares about continuity, to some degree, I was like, “If this doesnt make people happy, I dont know what else we can do.”
