The Boba Fett Star Wars is no longer happening.

Lucasfilm announced a standalone Star Wars movie focusing on bounty hunter Boba Fett is no longer in development

The film was officially announced back in May and is based on the much-loved character, who first introduced in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

Fett met his end in the infamous Sarlacc Pit during Return Of The Jedi, but returned in the prequels as a younger version of himself.

His on-screen father, Jango Fett, met his end at the hands of Jedi Master Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Now any hopes of seeing him again have been cancelled as Lucasfilm Executive Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to Critics Choice journalist Erick Weber.

The brief report simply reads: Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN.

The news comes after Lucafilm/Disney suffered a huge loss of off a $392 million (£305 million) worldwide box office take and $300 million (£233 million) production cost, most likely forcing the studio to reconsider how fast it should be putting out Star Wars movies.

But fans can look forward to the upcoming Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian, which will premiere on Disneys streaming service next year and is being helmed by The Jungle Books Jon Favreau (whos also directing the forthcoming remake of The Lion King).

Time will tell if fans will take to this as much as they were predicted to love the Boba Fett movie as the character is arguably the most popular of the minor Star Wars characters

So much so that fans have been calling for a solo Boba outing ever since his first appearance.

More: Star Wars

Boba Fett would have been the latest of George Lucass fabled characters to get the spinoff treatment. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story blasted the box office to pieces in 2016, while Solo: A Star Wars Story hit cinemas earlier this year.

Solo follows the origin story of Han Solo, previously played by Hollywood legend Harrison Ford.
