The Expendables is set to return in its fourth installment, with Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham pegged to star in the Hollywood blockbuster.
Boasting a stellar cast (both past and present) plucked from the Golden Years of Action – Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean- Claude Van Damme – its impossible to see the franchise as destined for anything other than the cinema screens.
The three Expendables have made over $800 million in the World Wide Box Office.
And yet, Terry Crews reveals, it was almost destined for the DVD heap.
Speaking to GQ about his ten most iconic roles, he said the first Expendables movie was supposed to go straight to home video.
He said: The first movie, was supposed to be direct to video. Youve got to understand where Stallone was at the time. He was trying to get this thing done and like Dude, youre in your sixties, how you gonna do an action movie?

All the studios turned it down, so Sly [Sylvester Stallone] starts calling people and he starts getting a buzz going.

It turns out Twitter was a great platform to get things viral – even in 2010.
What Sly started to do, Crews added, was tweet out “How would you like to see me, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis in a movie together?” And the internet went crazy. And then he called me!
The first movie was created in 2010 by Stallone to pay homage to the big-screen action movies of the 1980s and 1990s.

However, in 2017 he stated he would be return for another Expendables movie following disagreements over the script and direction of the franchise.
Schwarzenegger pulled his name from the movie in support of his co-star.
Stallone and Schwarzenegger have since said they will be returning for the fourth installment of the franchise.
