Thanos snap has been given an offical name.

In the climax of Avengers: Infinity War where Thanos, wearing the Infinity Gauntlet adorned with all six Infinity stones, clicks his fingers and wipes out half of the population.

As a result a lot of our heroes are turned to dust, including Spider-Man, Star Lord, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Scarlet Witch.

The event has been dubbed The Snap by fans, but it has a much fancier title.

In the book Marvels Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest Volume Two: Aftermath, Flickering Myth helpfully explains, the official name for the event is The Decimation.

What it also reveals is that the surviving Avengers like Captain America and Black Widow, have decided not to reveal what caused the sudden cull.

Things are tense enough between superheroes and humans already.

It isnt the first time the word has cropped up in the comics. In 2005 the issue Decimation focus on the fallout from Scarlet Witch using her powers to purge the mutant gene, robbing many mutants of their abilities.

It has thrown up a few questions, such as how did Tony remove his Nanotech helmet to record his message for Pepper, and why has Hawkeye had a complete makeover.

And just how did Ant-Man find his way out of the Quantum Realm?

Avengers 4 will hit UK cinemas on 26 April 2019.
