There were plenty of things we were left to wonder about at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Will the heroes return from the dust? Why did Doctor Strange hand over the Time Stone? Why, oh why, did Thor not just kill Thanos when he had the chance?
And why did Thanos not kill off the Avengers when he had taken the Infinity Stones from him?
The Mad Titan had opportunity to take down his foes after obtaining the Infinity Stones from them on Titan and in Wakanda, but instead of killing them, he teleports away.
Why did he not just eliminate any future opposition.
Well, the head of visual development at Marvel Studios has an explanation for that.

Ryan Meinerding said: The plan of getting all the Infinity Stones is putting him in the position of being so powerful that he is sort of calmer, more single-minded, and more reasonable.
He is not necessarily worried about killing the heroes. As long as he ends up with the stones, he can accomplish what he wants to.

And that he did. At the end of Infinity War, armed with the completed Infinity Gauntlet and thus all the power in the universe, Thanos snapped his fingers and wiped out half of the universe.
This led to the elimination of heroes including Spider-man, TChalla, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange and Winter Soldier.
However, fans expect these heroes to be brought back in Avengers 4 with the use of the Quantum Realm.
It has been confirmed that this will play a key role in the blockbuster, and with Scott Lang suspended there, Ant-Man could have a part to play in saving the day.
Avengers 4 is out April 2019.
