Tom Cruise loves the thrill of the chase.

Well, when it comes to his love of motorbikes at least.

The Hollywood actor was in his element while filming scenes on Wednesday for the anticipated Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to his 1986 breakout classic.

With the wind blowing through his hair, the 56-year-old actor hopped on a motorbike while chatting with directors on the San Diego set. Dressed in his characters iconic military jacket and sunglasses, the actor revved through what appeared to be a residential street.

Its been 32 years since the first Top Gun propelled Tom to superstardom but the actor hasnt aged a day, judging by the first look images.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun 2 will revisit Toms beloved character, Pete Maverick Mitchell, and how the pilot has adapted to modern life in the military.

Joseph previously told ComingSoon.net: The Navy is very different now than it was in 1986. Back then, they hadnt been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point.

Now, here in 2017, the Navys been at war for 20 years. Its just a different world now, so you cant remake the first movie. It has to adapt.

That being said, I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of Naval aviation and what its like to be in a fighter jet. The approach is going to be appropriate for the times we live in.

In July, it emerged that Miles Teller had been cast to play the son of Goose, who was Mavericks right-hand man and now becomes the pilots protege.

More: Tom Cruise

Fans of the original will see some other familiar faces in Top Gun 2, with Val Kilmer confirmed to return while Jennifer Connelly has also been cast.

Top Gun: Maverick is slated for release on 26 June 2019.
