Anticipation is already building for Tom Hardys debut as Venom.

But expectations are evidently high because the actor has already signed on to play the character twice more.

The British star revealed this week that the Spider-Man spin-off will serve as a trilogy, following the release of the first film this October.

He told Total Film: Weve signed up for three of them. So its very much an open case. Well see what peoples responses are to it. I think its an awesome character. I love playing both of them.

The character of Venom, which is brought to life through Hardys alter-ego Eddie Brock, has been launched in isolation – in Sonys own Venom-verse Marvel universe, Hardy says – so it leaves open a world of possibilities for future films.

Its an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, its the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were.

Were all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, its a fulcrum piece. But lets see what happens when it lands.

Its yet to be decided whether Venom will take on an R-rating or a more relaxed PG13 in the States, but Hardy wants his 10-year-old son Louis to be able to see it.

Tom previously said that he felt done with playing superhero characters, until son Louis shared a particular interest in the comic book character, Venom.

My son came to me with a specific character that he absolutely fell in love with and then I started to take a look at it myself and then, as if by magic, a script appeared on the horizon which was awesome.

He added: When I was presented with the opportunity to play Venom, and that correlated with my sons love for Venom and how cool he was, I got really excited and decided that I really wanted to do it.
