A few poor reviews cant keep a superhero movie down.
Tom Hardys Venom has broken October opening weekend records despite pulling in meh reviews for his performance as the anti-hero, raking in $80 million (£61.2 million) in the first few days. The previous record holder was 2013s Gravity, which took $55.7million (£42.6million).
In comparison, Lady Gagas A Star Is Born, which has already had calls for Oscar nominations, pulled in roughly half that, at $42million (£32.1million).
Venom also performed well overseas, grossing $125.2million (£92.6million) in international sales.
So while critics werent fans of the latest Marvel movie, movie goers clearly made up their own minds.
Tom Hardy recently joked the world has quite enough superheroes, as he said the market has hit saturation point, despite the fact hes just signed up for three movies.

He said: Its a development, a continuous progression of these symbolic heroes that we like. Obviously theres a saturation at the moment, in the marketplace. Were definitely superhero-movie heavy when you go to see big movies nowadays.
But he added that his new movie Venom is different, as his superhero isnt the traditional good guy.
What was nice about this one is it straddles the fence between the concept of what good and bad is and presents a flawed human being host to a flawed superhero, he told PA.

Its definitely fresh for that, and thats whats exciting, as opposed to turning anything on its head. Its not black and white, its about greys.
And without wanting to be complex, it lays that out very simply. Im flawed, I think we are all fundamentally flawed to some degree.
