EXCLUSIVE: Clifton Collins Jr., who currently co-stars on HBOs series, Westworld, has signed on to play opposite Lucas Hedges and Shia LaBeouf in Honey Boy, which Alma Harel is directing from the screenplay co-written by LaBeouf.
Loosely based on the Transformers stars relationship with his father, the pic follows a child star (Hedges) attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father (LaBeouf) over the course of a decade. “Honey Boy” was LaBeoufs childhood nickname.
A Quiet Place star Noah Jupe is attached to play the younger version of LaBeouf.
Collins will play Tom, a strong-chinned ex-stuntman who serves as a mentor/big brother figure to the young star. Hell also be seen in the upcoming indies A Crooked Somebody, with Ed Harris, and Lucky Day opposite Nina Dobrev.
Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik is producing Honey Boy with Daniela Taplin Lundberg of Stay Gold Features and Christopher Leggett of Delirio Films. Automatiks Fred Berger is the executive producer while Stay Gold will finance the film.
Collins repped by Paradigm, MGMT Entertainment, and Morris Yorn.
