It hasnt been the best of years for Coronation Streets David Platt (Jack P Shepherd).
As viewers will know the character was sent to prison in July following a trial involving both him and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), which resulted in David being sent down while he walked free.

Why is David Platt in prison in Coronation Street?
David ended up behind bars after both he and Nick both found themselves on trial for their part in stealing money from Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
Although it was Nick who actually committed the crime, David ended up taking the fall for it after Nick betrayed him in court.

The dramatic scenes in July saw Nick deciding he should come clean and confess after David stepped in to protect him during an attack in prison.
That was until Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) persuaded him he was better off sticking to his original story so she and son Oliver can have him home.
Subsequently Nick declared in court that the full blame for the crime rested with David, leaving his sibling to face the consequences.
His actions saw David sentenced to eight months behind bars.
When will David Platt be released from prison?

The exact date for Davids release has not been confirmed.
Despite receiving an eight-month sentence, however, he only has to serve four of those months in prison – so expect to see him set free some time this autumn.
