The wind-whipped Woolsey Fire jumped the 101 Freeway, prompting this usually busy artery to be closed in both directions from Valley Circle Boulevard in the Hidden Hills area to Reyes Adobe Road in Agoura Hills, California Highway Patrol officials said Saturday morning.

Before the closure in both directions, northbound 101 Freeway traffic was reduced to one lane on Friday and forced to exit at Las Virgenes Road as gray billowing smoke and flames spewed from the hillsides.

Many people stopped near the freeway exit, got out of their cars and shot photos and video with their cell phones of blaze that had scorched roughly 8,000 acres so far.
Meanwhile, the Woolsey fire forced Portrero Road between Ranco Dos Vientos and S. Lewis Road to be closed in Ventura County, according to CHP officials.
While the southbound 101 Freeway had been closed between Wendy Drive and Lewis Road, it opened around 8:30 a.m Friday in Ventura County, said Rebekah Wyatt, a CHP dispatcher.
The 101 Freeway in Ventura County was clear as of 11 a.m., she said.
