Anthony Joshua took a cheeky dig at the quality of Tyson Furys recent opponents and hinted that he would not rematch Andy Ruiz Jr. if he beats the Mexican when they face off again in Saudi Arabia.

The Brit lost his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight belts in a shock defeat at Madison Square Garden but will rematch Ruiz in December, while Fury is currently preparing to face Otto Wallin later this month.

The Gypsy King easily saw off Tom Schwarz in his last fight, and Joshua appeared to take a dig at the calibre of fighter Fury has come up against recently and will be aiming higher himself.

I said, “Why am I fighting all these solid contenders for?” Im going to fight an easy fight after that.

Asked to clarify if he was dissing Fury and his opponent Wallin, Joshua added with a smile: Yeah. You gotta read between the lines, man.

AJs promoter Eddie Hearn has already suggested that, should Joshua win, he would look for a unification fight against Deontay Wilder next rather than take on Ruiz again.

The winner of the rematch will also need to contend with two mandatory fights – one against IBF challenger Kubrat Pulev and the other against WBO challenger Oleksandr Usyk.
