Billie Eilish was convinced she wouldnt make it to 17 as she opens up about mental health struggles

Bad Guy singer Billie Eilish struggled to believe she would make it to 17.

The Los Angeles native, recently named Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards, told Elle shes finally not miserable after a difficult year.

The teen pop sensation, 17, has been open about her ongoing mental health stuggles and in 2018 revealed she has Tourette Syndrome, causing her to have tic attacks.

I was a 16-year-old girl who was really unstable… I didnt think that I would even make it to this age, she said.

I felt like nothing mattered; every single thing was pointless. Not just in my life, but everything in the whole world.

Eilishs meteoric rise to fame began in 2016 with the release of her hit single Ocean Eyes. Since then, her songs and videos have been streamed over 15 billion times.

This past summer, an estimated 40,000 fans witnessed the genre-blending singer-songwriters Glastonbury debut—a few months after a packed crowd witnessed her electric performance at Coachella.

I love fame! Being famous is great, Eilish said, but it was horrible for a year.

It was hard, she admitted, to adjust to touring life, especially being away from her friends and losing many along the way.

I would be gone for months…Id come back, and they wouldnt be friends with me anymore.

Now, the people person brings friends on tour as well as her brother, co-writer and collaborator Finneas, who also joins her on stage.

It wasnt just one thing, Eilish said, thats allowed her to feel like shes in the happiest place of [her] life.

Its growing up, people coming into your life, certain people leaving.

She also made the best decision of [her] life by quitting Twitter.

Eilish is now looking forward to her 18th birthday in December and hopes her story will inspire fans who are suffering.
