BTS get gold certification in Japan, nominated for Koreas prestigious Order of Cultural Merit

K-pop boy band BTS received a gold certification in Japan and got nominated for the prestigious Order of Cultural Merit in South Korea ahead of their comeback this month.

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) released the list of certified works released in Japan for the month of July.

BTS Love Yourself: Tear, released last May, was certified gold by RIAJ for selling 100,000 copies in Japan.

JYJ member Jaejoongs single Sign/Your Love and TVXQs Road were also certified gold by the association.

Last January, BTS single MIC Drop/DNA/Crystal Snow was certified double platinum by RIAJ for garnering 500,000 in sales.

In June, Japans Oricon chart revealed that BTS ranked fourth in album sales in the country for the first half of 2018, making them the top Korean artist.

BTSs Face Yourself, the groups Japanese album released in April, got fourth place overall with 320,094 copies sold. The album was also certified platinum by RIAJ for selling more than 250,000 copies.

In addition, BTS got nominated for the Korean governments Order of Cultural Merit, which is awarded to a person who has rendered outstanding meritorious services in the fields of culture and art in the interest of promoting the national culture and national development.

The award will be given out during the Korean Popular Culture & Arts Award that will be held in October.

If BTS get the award, they will be the first K-pop group to achieve the feat. In 2012, Korean rapper Psy was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit for his hit single Gangnam Style.

BTS will release the album Love Yourself: Answer on 24 August.
