Busy Philipps is about to be a lot busier. The erstwhile Freaks and Geeks and Dawsons Creek actress has her very own talk show coming to E!
Its unclear so far whether the new program will air weekly or nightly, as Chelsea Handlers old E! talk show was—but The Cut reports that Philippss will be titled Busy Tonight, and that she will executive produce alongside Julie Darmody and Tina Fey collaborator Eric Gurian. (Fey and Gurian are partners at their production company, Little Stranger.) Production is expected to begin this summer in Los Angeles. Philipps confirmed the news on Instagram.
The list of women in late night remains, as it always has, short: Samantha Bee, Sarah Silverman, and Robin Thede are the only women with talk shows airing right now. (Handlers Netflix talk show was canceled last year after two seasons, and recent White House Correspondents Dinner emcee Michelle Wolf will launch her own program, The Break, with the same streaming giant this month.) On top of her charismatic personality, Philippss extremely strong social media presence—particularly on Instagram—will likely be a strong asset as she prepares to host her own show.
More details will presumably unfold in the weeks to come, but for now, the main question we should all be asking is this: how it took this long for a network to lock down Phillipps? Especially when she has the perfect first guest ready and waiting?
Representatives E! did not immediately respond to V.F.s request for comment.
