Cardi B is leading the MTV Video Music Awards nominations – beating Beyonce and Jay-Z.

The Bodak Yellow rapper is up for a whopping 10 awards at the ceremony being held on 20 August in New York City, which puts her ahead of The Carters, who are up for eight with Apes**t.

Not bad, not bad at all. Something else to celebrate given that she gave birth to baby daughter Kulture just days ago.

The 25-year-old is up for artist of the year, song of the year, best new artist, best hip hop, best choreography, video of the year, best collaboration and best editing. All categories at the awards are gender neutral.

Behind her and The Carters, Childish Gambino and Drake both have seven noms, Bruno Mars has six, Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello are on five, and Ed Sheeran, Khalid and Young Thug all on four.

Bruce Gillmer, Head of Music and Music Talent, Global Entertainment Group, Viacom, said: It has already been a monumental year in music, and this years VMAs will take things to a whole new level.

The extraordinary group of nominees have amazed us with their talent and inspired us with their creativity – and when you get them together for one night, anything is possible.

Cardi, meanwhile, has her hands full with her new little lady, and shes said to be obsessed with her.

A source told E! news: Cardi was so excited to have the baby early and has been nothing but head over heels with her baby girl. She had a smooth delivery and the baby was definitely ready to be here early. Cardi is obsessed with Kulture and is already very attached and overprotective.

They added that the new family are enjoying some private time: She has let her family and a few friends see the baby, but has mainly been spending a lot of time alone at home with Offset.

The VMAs take place in New York on 20 August at 9pm ET/2pm GMT.
