Channel 4 has ruled out rumours and reports that Best Soap winner Hollyoaks is facing the axe. Reports suggested that falling ratings would be the end of the line for the popular Channel 4 serial – which has broken ground with social issue storylines covering far right racism and self harm – but this has been refuted by the channel.

The soap raked up plenty of prizes at the recent soap awards, including Best Actor and Best Villain as well as the coveted Best Soap title. It has been acclaimed by fans and critics alike for its hard hitting topics as well as its exciting soap like storylines.

A source claimed to The Sun: Ratings for Hollyoaks have been on a downward trajectory in 2019 and Channel 4 fear they wont recover. Its one of their most iconic programmes and has been on air for almost 25 years, so of course they dont want to see it go. But they need to justify its existence and the numbers wont have to go much lower before that becomes impossible. This is a last-ditch effort.
