Chris Rock is officially the latest star to succumb to the no-strings-attached allure of anthology TV.
On Friday, FX shocked audiences by revealing that the comedian will star in a fourth iteration of FXs Fargo. Created by Noah Hawley, the Joel and Ethan Coen–inspired series has previously starred __ Billy Bob Thornton,__ Kirsten Dunst, and Ewan McGregor in its successive seasons. The network also unveiled the premise for the new season, which will air next year and be set in 1950s Kansas City, Missouri.
Rock will play the head of an African-American crime syndicate as the organization jockeys for power, illegal profit, and the American dream, in a city also inhabited by an Italian crime family trying to do the very same.
“Chris Rock plays the head of one family, a man who—in order to prosper—has surrendered his oldest boy to his enemy, and who must in turn raise his sons enemy as his own,” said FX in a press release. “Its an uneasy peace, but profitable. And then the head of the Kansas City mafia goes into the hospital for routine surgery and dies. And everything changes. Its a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.”
Rock, who executive produced another FX program, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, said in the statement, “Im a fan of Fargo and I cant wait to work with Noah.”
