Coronation Street is currently knee-deep in one of its most gruesome stories to date as Paul Foremans (played by Peter Ash) childhood groomer Kel (Joe Alessi) is back to haunt him, dating his mum Bernice (Jane Hazelgrove). But for how long?

Back when Paul was just 14, Kel would return home from the pub and sexually abuse the teenager. Naturally, Paul was horrified to see the ghost of his past walk back into his life.

Joe Alessi, who by his own admission has the misfortune of playing a creep of the Cobbles, appeared on Lorraine today to confirm his time on the soap will come to an end. He just doesnt know when.

I have no idea [how long I have left], it is open-ended, he told the host.

The character Im playing is finite, Ill never be a regular on Corrie thats sure.

My role will come to an end, he confirmed, but not before there will be a lot of fall out.

Joe insisted Kel comes as a warning to viewers. A lot of these people seem to be normal people; theyre not monsters – theyre not the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, he said.

Paul put Kel in hospital this week, after trying to kiss his groomer and claiming Kel was only interested when he was young. But Kel is back under Pauls skin. They think Im the victim here; not you, Kel sniggered.

Paul has turned to Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), but can the vicar help bring Kel down?

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
